SOPA STRIKE: Our Lights Are Going Out On January 18th, 2012

On January 18, 2012 this website will go dark in protest of SOPA.  If you don’t know what SOPA is and how it affects the Internet and the world, I urge you to go here, here and here for more details.

Websites like Google, Wikipedia, Craigslist and many more have an opportunity to join this blackout and show the bill’s supporters what one day would be like without their services.  Google, and providers like them stand to lose immense amounts of potential profits and possibly even suffer losses by deactivating their services and content for one day, and it may be unreasonable to ask that they do so.  A blackout may not be the most effective form of protest, but in a world of “Occupy”, we are not surprised that such a protest would be starting.  We are happy to align ourselves with such a protest and believe that it is the right thing no matter what.  It should be made clear that we don’t have a board of directors sweating at the mere thought of a day without profits, so it’s easier to make this decision.

Companies that butter their bread on the web ultimately have to do what they think is right.  Our protest of SOPA is our way of doing what we think is right.  If you think that a company like Google should be involved in this blackout, you can make your voice heard here.

If you serve content on the web, we urge you to follow us into darkness for one day.  Get on the official protest list right away and start preparing your website.

Thanks for reading, and we’ll see you again when the sun comes up on January 19th.

Best Regards,

The Powerbase
