I’ve been playing a lot with minimal installs so I’ve got two questions:
    1) why do you use a server install instead of the regular desktop minimal iso?
    2) is the first “apt-get upgrade” useful? At the end of minimal install all packages are already at the most recent version available in repositories. Are gnome3 ppa’s holding something more “bleeding edge” for the base system?
    Thanks

You’re absolutely right MfM.. Why using an Ubuntu Server!! You can just use the minimal iso, or using an alternate CD you can choise the minimal installation from “Other options” → F6

Hey MfM I don’t see any minimal iso’s for 13.04 only 12.10. Where did you get it?

Mint in Cinnamon and XFCE has been whupping Ubuntu “proper”, and this looks like a response to please Unity rejectors. I’ll give it a try on regular persistent Live USB, not with some fancy early adopter stunt.

Jeremy. Thanks for dropping in. We mentioned news of that last night. We probably should have updated this article to reflect that. Great work! We’re really excited that this project is moving forward and that you’re a part of it.

Good article. Works fine on my test box too.
FWIW I install ssh during the install process. This allows me to ssh in to the box remotely to finish the install.
